The way a house gets damaged by washing is always the same: too much pressure aimed the wrong direction. Siding is built to shed water running down it, not water driven upward at it, so a wand pointed up under a lap seam pushes water behind the siding and into the wall — where it does not dry, and where nobody sees it until something else goes wrong. So a house wash is done at the pressure the surface can take, worked top down with the spray angled with the laps, and the mildew is handled by cleaning solution and dwell time rather than by force. Vinyl, painted wood, brick and stucco each have a different limit, and so do the windows and light fixtures in between them. Concrete is the opposite problem — a driveway or walkway will take real pressure, and the mistake there is uneven passes that leave a striped surface once it dries. Wood is the third case: a deck or fence washes at low pressure, because pressure high enough to strip grey off deck boards is also high enough to raise the grain and leave the wood fuzzy. That matters when the wash is the step before staining, which is often exactly what it is.
